New York-Bound JetBlue Flight Nearly Collides With Smaller Plane: FAA

Officials are investigating after a close call between a JetBlue flight heading to a New York airport and a smaller plane earlier this week.

The Federal Aviation Administration says JetBlue Flight 94, an Airbus A320 which took off from Orlando International Airport in Florida, received an onboard safety alert while it was approaching Westchester County Airport in White Plains on Jan. 25.

The smaller plane was flying just two miles southwest of the JetBlue flight, according to the FAA. The JetBlue pilot climbed following the safety alert and avoided a collision with the smaller plane.

The FAA says the smaller plane, which was operating under visual flight rules, was not required to communicate with air traffic controllers.

Both planes landed safely. The FAA is investigating.
