Two Men Stabbed on Chelsea Street: Police

Two men were stabbed in Chelsea on Monday night and were rushed to the hospital, police say. 

The men were stabbed around 8 p.m. near the intersection of Sixth Avenue and 14th Street, according to the NYPD. The stabbing scene is two blocks away from Union Square. 

A 42-year-old man was stabbed in the chest, and a 32-year-old man suffered a deep cut to the right arm pit, police said. 

The two men were taken to Bellevue Hospital, where they are listed in critical, but stable condition, officials said. 

A suspect, 50-year-old Douglas Gaston, was arrested nearby after fleeing the area, according to police. He is charged with assault, reckless endangerment, criminal possession of a weapon and menacing, police said. 

Officers cordoned off an area of a sidewalk with police tape as they investigated Monday night. A shopping cart appeared to be a part of the crime scene. 

The circumstances leading up to the stabbings wasn't immediately known.
