2 Teens Killed After Crash Near NYC Church: Police

A 19-year-old driver and his 17-year-old passenger were both killed when their car slammed into a parked truck and a utility pole near a Staten Island church, authorities said.

It was not immediately clear what caused Daniel Castellano of Staten Island to lose control of the car as he traveled on Richmond Avenue in Bulls Head about 8 p.m. on Monday evening.

But the car was shredded to pieces in the crash, with wreckage strewn about the block. The truck, utility pole and construction fence outside church were all also damaged.

Castellano and the passenger, Sebastian Serrano of Staten Island, were both taken to an area hospital, where they were pronounced dead, officials said.

No one else was injured in the wreck. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
